The publication examines the follow-up of arterial stiffness after kidney transplantation using a non-invasive oscillometric method. Chronic kidney disease and the post-transplant state are associated with considerable cardiovascular risk, even in patients with well-functioning grafts. For this reason, it is important to use assessment methods that can provide information about vascular status in a painless, rapid and repeatable way.

In this three-year longitudinal study, 41 kidney transplant recipients from deceased donors were followed. The authors used the Tensiomed Arteriograph, a non-invasive oscillometric device, to measure key parameters of arterial stiffness, including pulse wave velocity, augmentation index and pulse pressure. These findings were compared with carotid sclerosis, cardiac function parameters and laboratory markers, including transferrin levels.

The results suggest that monitoring arterial stiffness may be a useful tool for estimating overall cardiovascular risk in kidney transplant patients. The study found associations between pulse wave velocity, left ventricular wall thickness, ejection fraction, transferrin levels and the progression of carotid sclerosis. The practical significance of the publication is that oscillometric vascular function assessment may offer a simple, rapid and painless method for long-term cardiovascular monitoring in transplant recipients.
