A Hungarian physician in the US

Egy magyar orvos Amerikában könyv

I worked 18 years in the US as a practising physician, physician scientist and medical director of dialysis units. Making important decisions , following unique cases and adjusting to a different culture forced me to rethink my own biases and try to understand those of others.

In this book, I am describing my experiences as a practising physician in the US in an essay format, describing medical cases and problems from a more general perspective. The hard decisions and judgements one has to make every day, the differences in culture, the logic and structure of a huge system forced me to think deeply about what medicine, cultural differences and science realy mean and how one can interpret the usual biases inherent in them from an entirely new perspective.

This book describes true events honestly raising quite provocative questions. I make no judgements and I hide nothing. I trust that I can make the general public understand more about what actually goes on in the world of medical professionals and to make people ask questions about their own biases, beliefs and perspectives.

The Book of Life

What do lab results tell us? What do numbers actually say the function of the human body and mind? And what do they hide? The Book of Life was written by a practising physician using these data every day trying to discover their true meaning icluding their limitations.

This book is inviting the reader to ask questions about what it means to know, to measure and to believe in the context of medivine and healing. It is not a textbook and does not always follow the established categories of the medical sciences. It raises new questions about both kidney disease and human thought in general.

History, science, mathematics, lifestyle, religion, and anxiety are some of the topics that The Book of Life discusses to create a new perspective, a new way of thinking in the context of a new life science, vitologia. It may not provide ready anwers but helps to ask questions differently.
